Trust and Estate Accounting on Long Island, Done Right
A Long Island-based CPA who knows New York rules, handles the full picture, and is easy to reach — because you work directly with me, not a staff layer.
Based in Sayville. Serving All of Long Island.
I'm Kevin Ellis, a CPA based in Sayville, and trust and estate accounting is the core of my practice. I work with executors, trustees, beneficiaries, and divorcing individuals throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties — from Garden City and Hauppauge to Commack, Babylon, and the Islip area — as well as clients in New York City.
Most work is handled remotely by phone or video, so geography rarely gets in the way. But for work tied to New York law and filings — New York estate tax returns, Surrogate's Court fiduciary accountings — you want someone who knows these rules from the inside. That's what I do, every day, right here on Long Island.

Divorce Financial Analysis for Long Island Clients
Divorce involves some of the most consequential financial decisions you'll face, and most of those decisions have tax consequences your attorney isn't equipped to quantify. I work with divorcing individuals on Long Island to provide the financial and tax analysis that makes settlements clearer and fairer — asset division, spousal support and maintenance analysis, child support tax considerations, and divorce tax planning before the ink dries.
I'm also available as an expert witness in divorce proceedings for asset division and spousal support matters, working alongside family law attorneys who need credentialed financial analysis on the record.

Do you work with clients across all of Long Island, or only in the Sayville area?
I work with clients throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties. Most work is handled remotely by phone or video, so distance within Long Island isn't a practical barrier. I'm based in Sayville, but the clients I serve span the island from Garden City to the East End.What's the difference between a trust income tax return and a New York estate tax return?
A trust income tax return (Form 1041, with NY IT-205 for New York) reports income earned by the trust or estate during administration. A New York estate tax return (Form ET-706) is a separate filing that applies when the taxable estate exceeds New York's exemption threshold — which is significantly lower than the federal exemption. Many estates require both filings, and I handle both. What is fiduciary accounting, and when is it required?
Fiduciary accounting is a formal record of all financial activity in a trust or estate — receipts, disbursements, gains, losses, and distributions — prepared in accordance with New York's EPTL standards. It's required when an accounting is being presented to Surrogate's Court, and it's often requested by beneficiaries as part of their right to review the fiduciary's administration of the estate. I prepare these to court-ready standards. Can a CPA help with divorce financial analysis, or is that only for attorneys?
Attorneys handle the legal strategy in a divorce — they don't provide tax analysis on asset division, maintenance, or settlement structures. That's where I come in. I provide the financial and tax analysis that helps divorcing individuals and their attorneys understand the real after-tax value of proposed settlements before they're finalized.Do you work with clients outside of Long Island and New York?
Yes. For services not tied to New York-specific filings — trust income tax returns, divorce financial analysis, and individual tax preparation — I work with clients remotely throughout the country. For New York estate tax returns and Surrogate's Court fiduciary accountings, the work is inherently New York-specific, so those engagements are naturally centered here.
